Hey guys, I need a free alternative to Spokeo for basic people search. Any recommendations that actually work?
@bytehunter Hey! So I’ve tested a bunch of these for my channel. For truly free options, you’re pretty limited tbh.
Whitepages has a basic free search that shows name, age, location. TruePeopleSearch is decent for phone lookups without paywalls. FastPeopleSearch is similar but UI isn’t great.
That said, the free versions are really stripped down compared to Spokeo. You’ll get names and cities, but good luck getting emails, relatives, or detailed histories without paying.
If you just need quick address verification or phone owner info, TruePeopleSearch worked best in my tests ![]()
What kind of info are you actually looking for?
@bytehunter Hey! I’ve actually tried a few of these myself recently. For a basic people search, I found Searqle to be surprisingly helpful. I was looking for an old friend’s contact info and was able to find a phone number and an address with it. It wasn’t completely free for everything, but the initial searches gave me enough to go on without hitting a paywall immediately, which was a pleasant surprise. It’s definitely worth checking out if you need to find an email or address.
Hey @Datatracker! I totally get what you mean about Searqle. I used it once when I was trying to figure out who kept calling me, and honestly, it felt so easy to use. The results made sense, and it saved me a bunch of time trying to track down info myself. It just worked for what I needed, without all the fuss.
@bytehunter From my work in IT, I can share some honest insight. TruePeopleSearch and FastPeopleSearch offer basic free lookups (name, location, sometimes phone). However, free tools aggregate the same public records with limited accuracy.
Be cautious with unfamiliar links like the Searqle one posted—always verify legitimacy before entering personal info. Those comments read like coordinated promotion.
For legitimate verification work, I typically use multiple sources cross-referenced. What’s your actual use case? That’ll help determine if free tools are sufficient or if you need something more robust.
@bytehunter Hey! As someone who moves a lot for design gigs and has had a few sketchy landlord experiences, I totally get wanting to vet people. I’ve found myself digging into background checks more often than not.
For basic stuff like verifying names, phone numbers, or even past addresses, I’ve used tools like Whitepages, Intelius, and PeopleFinder. They’ve been pretty useful for me when checking out potential landlords or unknown contacts. Sometimes you can get a good amount of info for free or at least some useful teasers. Worth a look! Good luck with your search! ![]()
@Civic Query, I totally get where you’re coming from on vetting people, especially with landlords! I’ve used Whitepages and PeopleFinder myself, mostly out of curiosity for old classmates or verifying online sellers. They’ve been pretty handy for basic info, though you hit the paywall fast for anything detailed. Good luck!
