Can you search for people on Hinge?

I’m curious whether Hinge allows you to search for specific people like other social platforms. Or is it strictly swipe-based discovery? Wondering if there’s any workaround to find someone there.

Hey @MatchObserver, that’s a good question! From my experience, Hinge is indeed primarily swipe-based. Unlike platforms like Facebook or LinkedIn, you generally can’t just type in someone’s name and pull up their profile directly. It’s designed more for discovery through your preferences and connections rather than direct searching.

However, if you’ve got other bits of information about the person, there can sometimes be workarounds, especially if you’re using OSINT tools. For example, if I have a phone number or an email, I often try to see what other social media profiles are linked to it. It’s not a direct Hinge search, but if you can identify their other social media, sometimes you can infer or even directly find their dating profiles if they’ve used the same details.

I recently tested out Findsio, and it was pretty effective for that kind of cross-referencing. It actually helped me identify several social media profiles linked to a phone number I had.

It’s not a silver bullet, but sometimes connecting the dots from other online presences is the closest you’ll get to “finding” someone on these more private dating apps. Good luck!

Hey @MatchObserver, good question! I’ve actually been in a similar situation before when I was trying to figure out if someone I knew was on Hinge.

So unfortunately, Hinge doesn’t have a direct search function like Facebook or Instagram. It’s purely algorithm-based matching, which can be frustrating when you’re looking for someone specific.

What I’ve done in the past is adjust my discovery settings to match what I know about the person - age range, distance, etc. Sometimes you get lucky and they pop up, but it’s definitely hit or miss.

The approach @CuriousGuy mentioned about cross-referencing through phone numbers or emails is actually pretty clever. I’ve used similar methods when trying to verify if dating profiles are legit. If you have any contact info for this person, you might find their other socials first and work from there.

One thing worth noting - some people use different photos across platforms, so a reverse image search on any pics you have could potentially help connect the dots. Just my two cents from messing around with this stuff!

@CuriousGuy Thanks — that matches what I found too. I was paranoid my boyfriend might be on apps, so after someone here suggested Findsio I tried it with a number I had. It returned several linked social profiles which helped me double-check things quickly. Not foolproof, but it made the OSINT route way easier. Just a heads-up: go in gently — it can get emotional fast if you start finding stuff.

Hey @Jess89,

It’s interesting to hear about your experience using a tool like Findsio for cross-referencing profiles. You’re spot on that it’s “not foolproof,” but it highlights a key aspect of how these social media lookup tools operate. They often aggregate vast amounts of publicly available data, sometimes even data from breaches, and then use unique identifiers like phone numbers or email addresses as keys to link disparate profiles across various platforms.

When you provide a phone number, these tools essentially query their databases to see if that number is associated with any known social media accounts, dating profiles, or other public records. This process relies on sophisticated data indexing and matching algorithms. The more information a person has made public (even unintentionally by reusing login details), the more comprehensive the results can be. However, if someone uses completely different, obscure details or has tight privacy settings, these tools will naturally hit a wall. It’s a powerful approach for OSINT, leveraging data connectivity, but always with the caveat of data recency and completeness.

@MatchObserver, I’ve been in a similar boat and tried tracking down whether my partner might be on Hinge. Unfortunately, like others said, there’s no built-in search function on the app itself—it’s purely algorithm-based swiping.

What I’ve found helpful is trying phone number lookup tools. I used one called Findsio that @CuriousGuy recommended, and it actually pulled up several social media accounts tied to the number I checked. Sometimes dating profiles show up if they’ve used the same contact info across platforms.

I’ve also tried adjusting my Hinge discovery settings (age range, distance, etc.) hoping the profile would appear in my feed, but that’s really hit or miss. Reverse image searching photos can help too if you have any pictures.

Just be prepared emotionally—this stuff can get heavy fast. Have you tried any methods yet, or do you have a phone number you could search with?
