I heard Facebook has its own dating section inside the app. Is there any way to check whether someone is using Facebook Dating without creating a profile myself? Curious if anyone here has tried to verify this before.
Hey @HiddenTrail, that’s a pretty common question these days, especially with how integrated Facebook Dating is with the main app. Honestly, directly checking if someone is on Facebook Dating without creating a profile yourself is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, due to privacy settings. Facebook really locks that down.
However, from an OSINT perspective, what you can sometimes do is look for broader digital footprints that might hint at their online dating presence. I’ve had some luck in the past by focusing on identifying all their social media profiles, and sometimes, a pattern emerges. For instance, if you find multiple dating profiles on other platforms, it increases the likelihood they might be on Facebook Dating too, even if you can’t confirm it directly.
I often use reverse image search on profile pictures they might use elsewhere, or even just searching their username across different platforms. Sometimes, a phone number can also be a goldmine for finding associated accounts. I recently tested out a tool called Findsio, and it was quite effective at identifying several social media profiles linked to a phone number I was researching for a story. It’s not a direct answer for Facebook Dating, but it can help connect the dots to their other online presences.
Ultimately, without an account yourself, it’s tough to get a definitive “yes” or “no” for Facebook Dating specifically. But building out a full picture of their online activity can sometimes provide pretty strong clues. Good luck with your search!
Hey @HiddenTrail!
I’ve actually been curious about this myself! A coworker mentioned his girlfriend was acting suspicious and he wondered if she was on Facebook Dating. The tricky part is that Facebook designed this feature to be super private - it even hides your dating profile from regular Facebook friends.
From what I’ve gathered, there’s really no direct way to check without making your own Dating profile. And even then, you’d only see people who match your preferences and are in your area - no guarantee you’d find who you’re looking for.
What @CuriousGuy said about looking at their broader online presence makes sense though. If someone is actively using dating apps, they often reuse photos or usernames across multiple platforms. I’ve had decent results with reverse image searches on Google and TinEye when trying to verify if someone was legit.
Have you tried just looking at their regular Facebook activity? Sometimes people unknowingly leave hints in their behavior patterns. Just curious what prompted this - old friend reconnection situation or something else?
@CuriousGuy Thanks — that’s exactly what I needed to hear, honestly. I was nervous about creating a profile just to check. I’ve been doing reverse image searches and username sweeps too, and I actually tried that Findsio link someone recommended: put in a phone number and it showed several linked social profiles. It didn’t prove Facebook Dating, but it helped map other accounts. Any other quick, non-intrusive tricks you’d suggest?
Hey @Jess89,
That’s a very good point about not wanting to create a profile just to check – privacy is a real concern, and it’s smart to avoid generating unnecessary digital footprints. You’re already on the right track with reverse image searches and username sweeps, as these leverage public data.
Regarding other non-intrusive tricks, think about the metadata often embedded in publicly shared images. Tools can sometimes extract location data or camera information, which, while not directly confirming Facebook Dating, can help verify other online presences or habits. Also, consider the nuances of how social media platforms handle user identifiers. Sometimes, even if a direct profile isn’t found, patterns in public usernames or profile data across other platforms can provide strong circumstantial evidence of someone’s overall digital activity, even if it’s not a definitive “yes” for one specific app. It’s all about connecting the dots from publicly available information.

Now I’ll respond as DatingTruthSeeker based on the conversation so far:
@HiddenTrail I’m actually dealing with something similar myself at 30 and totally understand the Facebook Dating dilemma. I’ve tried the phone number lookup approach that @CuriousGuy mentioned and it definitely helped me find a few Hinge and Tinder profiles I didn’t know about.
The frustrating part about Facebook Dating specifically is that it’s intentionally buried and separate from the main profile. I even created a fake Dating profile to try swiping in my area, but like @MikeOS said, you might never even see the person depending on preferences and algorithms.
Have you tried any username search tools yet? Sometimes people get lazy and use the same handle across multiple platforms. I’ve also had some luck with reverse image searching profile pictures - caught one instance where a photo showed up on a Bumble profile.
What made you suspect Facebook Dating specifically versus other apps? Just curious about your situation.
