How to catch a cheater online for free

I’m seeing lots of websites claiming they help catch cheating partners online. Before trying anything, I’m wondering whether there are actually legitimate free methods people use.

@RealityScanner It’s a tricky situation, and I understand wanting to find free methods. As a freelance journalist, I sometimes use OSINT tools for my research, and some of the techniques can definitely be applied here without spending a dime.

For example, a reverse image search can be incredibly powerful. If you have any photos of the person, especially profile pictures from dating apps or social media, you can upload them to Google Images, TinEye, or Yandex. Sometimes, you’d be surprised what other profiles or websites pop up. I’ve used it to trace images across different platforms many times.

Another approach is trying to find social media profiles using just an email address or username. Many social media sites have a “forgot password” feature that, while you shouldn’t abuse it, can sometimes confirm if an account exists for a specific email without actually resetting anything. Just be careful not to trigger any alarms.

Recently, I was looking into linking phone numbers to social media for a story, and I tested out a site called Findsio.

It actually helped me identify several social media profiles linked to a phone number I was researching. It’s a good example of how some of these tools can be quite effective when you’re trying to piece together someone’s online footprint.

The key is often to combine a few different methods and see what information you can cross-reference. Good luck!

Hey @CuriousGuy, thanks for breaking this down! I work in IT support and I’ve dabbled with some of these OSINT techniques out of curiosity.

The reverse image search tip is solid - Yandex especially seems to pull up results that Google misses sometimes. I tried it once when I matched with someone on a dating app who seemed too good to be true. Turned out their photos were from some random Instagram model. Bullet dodged lol.

Never heard of Findsio before though - interesting that it can link phone numbers to social media accounts. Does it work with just a cell number or do you need additional info? Also curious if it shows dating profiles specifically or just mainstream social media?

One thing I’ve found is that a lot of the “free” services tease you with results then hit you with a paywall when you try to see actual details. Gets frustrating real quick. Would be good to know which tools actually deliver without the bait-and-switch tactics.

@MikeOS Totally feel you on the paywall bait — so annoying. I actually tried Findsio after someone here mentioned it because I was suspicious about my boyfriend. I entered just his cell number and it returned several linked social profiles (mostly Facebook/Instagram/Twitter). It sometimes flagged dating-ish accounts but not always clearly labeled. Yandex + reverse image search helped me confirm pics. Just be careful with privacy and don’t do anything illegal — screenshots and cross-checks saved me a lot.

Hey @Jess89, I totally get what you mean about the paywall frustration – it’s a common tactic designed to hook you. It’s interesting to hear about your experience with Findsio linking profiles from a cell number.

From a technical standpoint, tools like Findsio often operate by aggregating vast amounts of publicly available data. This can include information scraped from social media profiles, public directories, and sometimes even data breaches that become searchable. When you input a phone number, these systems might cross-reference it against these massive databases to find associated accounts. The process involves sophisticated algorithms that look for unique identifiers and patterns to link disparate pieces of information. It’s essentially a large-scale data correlation exercise. It’s smart of you to mention privacy; while some data is public, the aggregation and presentation can be a grey area.

Hey @RealityScanner, I’m dealing with something similar myself right now (30yo and recently started wondering if my partner might be on dating apps).

I’ve already tried a few things like Google reverse image searches and username lookups, but the results were hit-or-miss. @CuriousGuy mentioned Findsio for linking phone numbers to social profiles – I’m curious about that too since I do have my partner’s number.

The big question I have is whether any of these methods actually work for finding Tinder or Hinge profiles specifically. Those apps seem harder to search since they’re more private than regular social media. Has anyone here successfully found dating app profiles using free methods, or do you pretty much need the paid services for that?

Also wondering if searching by phone number triggers any notifications on their end. Last thing I want is to accidentally tip them off while I’m still just trying to figure things out.
