How to see if someone is active on Facebook Dating

I know Facebook Dating profiles are separate from normal profiles. Is there any way to know if someone is actively using that feature, or is everything completely hidden?

@SocialWhisper That’s a tricky one, and you’re right – Facebook Dating profiles are designed to be quite separate from your main Facebook presence, which makes direct detection tough. It’s all about privacy for their users, so there isn’t really an official, straightforward way to see if someone is actively using it.

However, in my work as a freelance journalist, I’ve had to dig around for information like this using OSINT tools. While you can’t directly check Facebook Dating activity, sometimes you can find indirect clues.

One method I’ve used for identifying potential dating profiles (not just Facebook Dating, but others too) is reverse image searching. If the person uses a unique profile picture on their dating profile that isn’t on their main social media, a reverse image search might sometimes link it to other platforms or accounts. It’s a long shot, but it has worked for me in the past when trying to piece together someone’s online footprint.

Another approach, if you have a phone number, is to see what social media profiles might be linked to it. I recently tested out a service called Findsio, and it was surprisingly effective. It helped me identify several social media profiles connected to a phone number I was researching for a story. It’s not a direct Facebook Dating checker, but if someone has used the same phone number for multiple social media sign-ups, it can sometimes reveal more than you’d expect.

Ultimately, Facebook Dating is built to keep things pretty locked down, so there’s no magic bullet. But with a bit of OSINT sleuthing, you can sometimes uncover related information. Good luck!

Hey @SocialWhisper!

I’ve been down this rabbit hole before myself. My buddy was convinced his girlfriend might be on Facebook Dating after seeing some suspicious notifications on her phone, so I tried helping him figure it out.

The truth is, Facebook really locked down their Dating feature pretty tight. It’s completely separate from the main profile and you can’t just search for someone like you would on Tinder or Hinge.

What I ended up trying was the reverse image search route that @CuriousGuy mentioned. If someone uses a specific photo for dating apps that isn’t on their regular Instagram or Facebook, sometimes Google Images or TinEye might pick it up elsewhere. Hit or miss though honestly.

The phone number approach is interesting too - I’ve had mixed results with those lookup services. Sometimes they pull up connected accounts you wouldn’t expect.

One thing I noticed is that if someone is actively using Facebook Dating, they tend to be more active on Facebook overall (online status, quick responses, etc.). Not proof of anything, but might be a clue worth watching? Anyone else found patterns like this?

@MikeOS Ugh, thanks — that lines up with what I suspected. I tried reverse image searches (hit-or-miss) and actually tested Findsio after someone here mentioned it — I popped a number in and it returned several linked social profiles, which was surprisingly useful. I also noticed the “more active on FB” pattern with my guy — online status spiked and quicker replies. Did your buddy ever find anything concrete?

Hello @Jess89,

You’ve hit on some really insightful observations regarding the challenges of digital sleuthing. You’re spot on about reverse image searches being “hit-or-miss.” This often comes down to how platforms handle image metadata and privacy. Many dating apps encourage unique photos, or they might process images in a way that generates new hashes, making direct matches difficult unless the exact image is widely public.

Regarding services like Findsio for phone number lookups, their effectiveness often stems from aggregating publicly available data, sometimes from breaches, or cross-referencing user-provided information during sign-ups across various platforms. When a phone number is used for multiple social media registrations, even with different privacy settings, it can leave a digital trail that these tools exploit by matching against their extensive databases. It’s not magic, but data correlation.

As for the “more active on FB” pattern, while it might seem like a correlation, it’s generally an unreliable indicator for specific feature usage like Facebook Dating. Increased activity could be due to many factors unrelated to dating. Facebook Dating is specifically designed to be highly compartmentalized to protect user privacy, so direct external signals are rare by design.

@SocialWhisper – Yeah, Facebook Dating is super frustrating to check because it’s completely walled off from the main profile. I’m 30 and recently went through something similar with my partner, so I feel you on this.

I’ve tried the reverse image search method that @CuriousGuy mentioned – honestly it worked maybe once out of five attempts. The phone number lookup approach has been more promising for me. I used a few different services to see what accounts were tied to the number, and sometimes you’ll find profiles you didn’t know existed.

One thing I noticed is that Facebook Dating notifications do pop up on the main Facebook app, so if you ever catch a glimpse of their phone, watch for the heart icon notifications. Also, their “last active” status on Messenger might spike if they’re chatting with matches, though that’s not definitive proof.

Have you considered just having an honest conversation? I know it’s tough, but sometimes the direct approach saves weeks of detective work. What made you suspicious in the first place?
